| Burial | Lowry City Cemetery, St. Clair Co., MO  | Obituary | Lena Viola Carter Cole, daughter of Effie and Jesse Carter, was born near Iconium, Missouri on July 22, 1890. She became a member of the Osceola Baptist Church at an early age and maintained her membership there throughout her life. She was a loyal worker in the church as long as her health permitted. On December 25, 1910, she was married to Burlie Sheldon Cole. To this union were born seven children: Ray S., Everett V., Jaunita, Paul M., Merle, Idaleen, and Roy. Preceding her in death were Everett Cole and Mrs. Idaleen Walters. Lena was a loyal member of Royal Neighbors of America and of the the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program. Here special interest was sewing, and in addition to many years of dressmaking, she made toys for the volunteer program and pieced many quilts for her family. Her entire life was spent in St. Clair County, except for a few years work in Kansas City. She was a member of Osceola Baptist Church from an early age and was a faithful worker. As a devoted Mother, accomplished in sewing, and in serving others, she was tireless. She leaves many loving relatives and friends. Survivors are her four sons, Ray Cole of Treasure Island, Florida, Paul and Roy Cole of San Pedro, California, Merle Cole of Bismarck, North Dakota; and one daughter, Jaunita Walker of Clinton, Missouri, two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Van Meter of the state of California and Mrs. Leota Glasgow of Kansas City, Missouri, 23 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Goodrich Chapel Thursday, August 5, 1982 for Lena V. Cole who died at her home August 2, 1982. Officiating at the service was Rev. Jim Gables. Music was by Richard Sunderwirth, soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Beryl Kiefer. Pallbearers were: Ronnie Walters, Larry Walters, Steve Walters, Paul Bass, Robert Cole, and Larry Dean Walters. Interment was in the Lowry City Cemetery with arrangements by Randy Sheldon, Goodrich Funeral Home. | Soc.
