Emma Wirt Cooper was born June 08, 1855 in Gallatin, Daviess County, Missouri, and died February 21, 1945.  She married (1) William Edwin Short 1876, son of Hiram Short and E. Short.  He was born Abt. 1844 in MO., and died February 18, 1884 in Osceola, St. Clair Co., MO.  She married (2) John Edwin Cole November 20, 1888 in St. Clair Co., MO, son of John Gripman Cole and Sarah Shockley.  He was born September 11, 1832 in Washington, D.C., and died May 25, 1914 in St. Clair Co., MO.

Emma Wirt Cooper was born near Gallatin, Mo June 8th, 1855 and departed this life February 21, 1945 at Clinton, being 89 years, 3 months and 13 days of age.  She was the daughter of Larkin W. and Hester Vaughn Cooper.  At the age of 14 she moved with her parents from Daviess county to Henry County and settled near Montrose.  After her marriage she moved to the farm home northwest of Osceola where she spent the last 67 years of her life, always faithful to her home through the long years.

 

She had one brother, Rice Harris, and five sisters:  Sarah Elizabeth, Amanda M., Nancy Jones, Mary Scroggins and Martha West, her twin sister, all of whom preceded her in death.

She was converted at an early age at the church of which her father was a pastor and became a member of the Teays Chapel church.  She remained a faithful Christian throughout hr life.

In 1876 she was married to William Edwin Short.  To this union was born two children, Mattie Lulu and Edwin Ernest.  Mr. Short passed away Feb. 18, 1884.  In 1887 she was married to John E. Cole.  They had one son, Burlie Sheldon.  Mr. Cole died May 25, 1914.

 

She leaves to mourn her two sons Edwin Short, Enid, Okla. and Burlie S Cole of Kansas City.  Nine grand children and ten great grandchildren, one grandson having met his death in January 1931.  Also left to mourn are many other relatives and friends.

 

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge always active in the affairs of her community and a true friend in time of trouble or sadness.

 

Funeral services were conducted at the Lowry City Methodist church Thursday, February 22, the Rev Harry Ezell officiating.  Burial was at the Teays Chapel cemetery.
